Diapason d'Or pour la TRIANGLE Solstice 8
The editorial team at Diapason has awarded its prestigious Diapason d’Or to our Solstice 8 floorstanding speaker. A major distinction from France’s leading classical music magazine, recognizing the most ambitious loudspeaker in the new Solstice range.
A prestigious distinction
Founded in 1956, Diapason is France’s leading classical music magazine. Its hi-fi reviews are renowned for their rigorous listening tests: loudspeakers are assessed on their ability to faithfully reproduce the authenticity of an acoustic recording, using demanding musical excerpts that are perfectly familiar to the magazine’s reviewers. The Diapason d’Or does not reward a technical specification sheet: it recognizes musical performance. This is precisely why it is considered one of the most respected distinctions in the world of high-fidelity audio.
The Solstice 8, the Solstice floorstanding reference
Solstice embodies “The New TRIANGLE Spirit”. This new range succeeds the Esprit EZ series, with the Solstice 8 representing its most accomplished expression: a three-way, four-driver floorstanding speaker, directly descended from the Antal EZ and designed for larger listening spaces (15 to 50 m²).
Every aspect has been reimagined:
- A 25 mm aluminium/magnesium dome tweeter, featuring a barrel-shaped phase plug and housed in a horn whose dispersion has been optimized to blend seamlessly with the midrange driver.
- A 16 cm natural cellulose pulp midrange driver, rear-mounted to increase the effective radiating surface.
- Two 16 cm woofers featuring concave cones without dust caps and a more rigid basket designed to optimize heat dissipation.
- A 107.5 cm cabinet tilted backwards by 2°, helping to reduce floor reflections and internally reinforced by X-shaped braces that rest against the rear of the woofers to limit vibrations.
- An all-new dual-material base combining cast metal and silicone, incorporating a large laminar port directed towards the listener, along with adjustable spikes and floor protectors.
The result is a frequency response of 38 Hz to 22,000 Hz (±3 dB), a sensitivity of 91 dB, upgraded dual binding posts allowing bi-wiring and bi-amplification, and four finishes: Teak, Birch, White and Black.
What Diapason says
The reviewer first highlights the overall coherence of the design: a crossover centered at 250 Hz and 3,700 Hz, dual binding posts, spikes and floor protectors… “every detail counts and makes this speaker […] a difficult contender to beat at this price.”
Then comes the listening test, and the verdict is clear:
“The listening experience is strikingly realistic. It combines an expressive sense of air and space, with superb depth to the soundstage, together with substance, well-defined bass that never lingers, and an articulate, forthright midrange and treble.
